Summer 2008 Fine Food Show Highlights

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW would like to thank all the Exhibitors in the Summer 2008 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show for their recent participation in the Summer Competitions. The Show was a great success and the standard of Competition was once again extremely promising.

The Spring Aquaculture Competition had a very strong year with a 25% increase in Exhibitors. The first Gold Medal and Champion title in the Salmon and Trout classes were awarded to Sapphire Coast Smoked Fish, for their Atlantic Salmon. Furthermore, Sapphire Coast Smoked Fish’s Champion Salmon was nominated for the President’s Medal, a prestigious award that represents the highest standards of sustainability, profitability and consumer appeal.

The Sydney Royal Beer Competition was a great success in only its second year, with six Gold medals and a Champion Beer awarded for the first time. With a 7% increase in Exhibitors, the Beer Competition is growing steadily each year.

The 2008 Sydney Royal Pasta Competition had its first Gold Medal awarded since 2004 to Pasta Italia’s Penne, which went on to win Champion 100% Durum Wheat Fresh Pasta.

There was fierce competition in the Sydney Royal Coffee Competition with one Gold, 15 Silver and 58 Bronze medals awarded. Champion Espresso went to Velluto Nero’s Designer Blend.

The Sydney Royal Bread, Cake and Pie Competition also had a successful year with four Champion titles awarded: Champion Meat Pie, Champion Gourmet Pie, Champion Biscuit or Biscotti and Champion Pastry.
